Hi! My name is Thomas and I’m an IT specialist that travels the world in his free time looking for adventures and hunting ruins! Well, not really hunting them… more like going to little known ruins and places that have already been found ☺ I’ve been travelling for over 5 years and I started this blog so that I could share my adventures with you and maybe even light the fire of travel in your heart.
Welcome to the Roving Cowboy Blog! This is where I share all my adventures, pictures, travel tips, and articles from around the world. It’s a place for people that want to:
• Hear amazing stories
• See pictures from all over
• Travel vicariously through others
• Get travel tips, reviews, and ideas
• Learn about the world
What do I do differently?
What makes this site different than all the others? Unlike other blogs, you won’t find reviews about places that I have not personally been or things that I have not done. This site is primarily for me to share my adventures with friends and so that I can remember and document them (my memory is horrible). All of my travels are done on a budget. That’s not to say I forego experiences because of money, but that I save money where I can so I have money to make memories. My trips usually range from 2 to 4 weeks and cost anywhere from $3K to $6K.
I’ve also learned to focus on the people and meeting new friends when I travel. There are so many rewarding aspects of travelling, but the people I meet are some of the best. Whenever I reminisce about my adventures, it isn’t the buildings, ruins, or attractions that I saw that come to mind. It’s the people I met and the experiences that I had with them.
The main thing that makes this blog unique is that it is told from my standpoint. Many blog’s main content is made of travel tips or guide like information. The meat of my blog is the stories and experiences that I had. CAUTION: I have more fun than most and sometimes do dangerous and fun things that I would not recommend to anyone!!! Like going into the slums (La Perla) in Puerto Rico to play basketball and hang out with the locals.
It all started with a Euro cruise with my fiancé in 2010. We had both just graduated our bachelors programs and decided to treat ourselves to a 2 week cruise spanning 6 countries in Europe. It was such an eye opening experience and I quickly caught the travel bug. One year I got the itch to travel so bad that I left for Thailand 2 months after getting back from Europe. In the past 6 years I have now been to a total of 26 countries and don’t plan to stop exploring any time soon!
Once I caught the travel bug, I made it a priority to take an overseas vacation once or twice a year because, in the end, the only reason that I have a job is so I can have fun and explore! Each trip has taught me new things and opened my eyes in new ways. On the most recent trip to Egypt, Jordan, and Spain, I had an epiphany that I had already lived a third of my life and had not changed the world or really helped anybody. I felt like I had wasted my time living the American Dream and needed a different direction in my life. This blog is one of the first steps for me. I want to help and encourage people to travel and maybe one day I can travel the world experiencing and improving it as my profession.
Thank you for visiting my blog! I look forward to our adventures ☺
